Yellow Breeches Educational Center Program
Academics

All academic teachers are special education certified, by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Our program uses an effective highly regarded alternative to traditional methods of instruction. This approach is well-suited to meet the individual educational needs of students, especially within the context of a comprehensive Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

Math
YBEC Academics 1

YBEC utilizes the Saxon Math Program. The Program ranges in levels from basic through advanced Math. It is highly recognized for exceeding State Curriculum Standards. The Saxon math program is in part designed for students with difficulties in retention, while focusing towards progress needed in order to be successful on the PSSA's.

English

YBEC has an in depth Literature Program, ranging from the classics such as Of Mice and Men, Catcher in the Rye, and The Taming of the Shrew, to name a few. High school literature has included authors such as Shakespeare, and Chaucer, The middle school has covered the Gary Paulsen series such as Brian's Winter, Brian's Hunt, and Brian's Return. The collection of literature grows every year at YBEC in order to avoid repetition for returning students. Along with literature, there is a strong emphasis placed on writing. Students work daily on writing skills to meet the necessary PSSA requirements. YBEC utilizes two different reading programs. The Wilson Reading Program is utilized for some students, while others have had more success with the SRA Direct Reading Program. YBEC does everything possible to cross-match programming from a student’s home district.
